Thing #2

By far the easiest of the 7 1/2 things is to begin with a goal in mind! I am excellent at setting goals and planning how to achieve those goals. However, I often get off track and don't get to the end of the plan. This brings up the one that I struggle the most with. That would be viewing problems as a challenge as opposed to a crisis. It always seems that when problems come up on the way to achieve my goal, I go into a tail-spin and panic. I really should meet these problems head on and view them as part of the learning process. Getting lost in Dallas is how I learned my way around most of the city and showing up at the wrong address in college is how I met my husband!

  1. Many times I know where I want students to go but I can't always predict how we will get there.

  2. This is the most difficult thing for me. I get distracted by the logistics of getting something to work that I often lose track of whether it even matters. Do you do anything special to help keep your goal in mind (post it, keep it in mind, check in periodically)?

  3. Checking for understanding throughout the lesson plan is one way. I like to go back and write what did work and what didn't work and why in my lessons. This helps me the next time. I also write what I would change or do again. During the actual period I have a note card of the steps I want to complete but this also allows me to write notes to myself on what to change. Keep in mind that you don't want the medium to ruin the message.
